Job summary
To facilitate efficient utilisation of the hospital's bed stock. Working with the Operations Centre Managers, Matrons, Consultants, Junior Medical Staff and nursing staff to manage all emergency inpatient admission and to advise on the management of elective surgical activity. To support the Discharge Liaison nurse in ensuring timely discharge from Hospital.
Main duties of the job
1.Actively coordinate and manage the site's bed stock, making appropriate use of all beds to minimise elective cancellation and ensuring an accurate bed state is known across the trust.2.Respond to emergency activity pressures by following the appropriate escalation policies.3.Effectively communicate with all wards, departments, all members of the multidisciplinary team. and other hospital sites to ensure timely transfers and or/discharge of patients.4.Communicate with clinical medical teams in the placement of outliers to maintain an accurate record of those outliers.5.Liaise with Discharge Liaison Nurses and/or Clinical Multidisciplinary Teams to support the management of patients whose discharge is delayed.6.Liaise with Accident and Emergency Department to manage emergency admissions and to track patients waiting on trolleys for beds to become available, maintaining the 4 hour standard, supported by use of the Medway and Clinical Management Systems.7.Collection of situation report data from both Lincoln and Louth sites required by the Health Authority and Regional Executive. (Sit rep)8.Effective communication passing on timely information to clinical service teams to enable effective and efficient bed management.9.Communicate with Bed Managers on other sites and to predict and forecast information to enable operational managers to plan for escalation of activity.10.To manage elective and emergency admissions to maximise use of beds.
