Job summary
Assess, plan, deliver and evaluate own workload, organising equipment and resources as service demands, in accordance with policies and protocols. Ensuring all documentation relating to patient care is maintained, accurate and legible.
Liaise with all members of the multidisciplinary tea who are involved in the specialised care of patients. Ability to give and receive sensitive and complex information.
Prepare and organise clinical work areas to receive patients, ensuring own practice is evidence and research based.
Act as a patient advocate respecting autonomy, privacy, dignity and confidentiality
To continue professional development through post registration study and maintain a record of development that includes reflective learning.
Communicate with the patient to ensure they are fully informed in all aspects of their care. When appropriate ensure that the necessary equipment/personnel are available to help overcome barriers of understanding. Communicate with relatives and patients to offer appropriate information and support. (This may include highly sensitive information)
In conjunction with senior staff, will participate in the setting, monitoring and evaluation of standards of care for patients.
Will inform shift co-ordinator when changes in circumstances occur which affect safe and competent practice.
Main duties of the job
Recovery Nurse Duties
Provide post-anaesthetic care for those under supervision as required, utilising working knowledge of airway management
Provide care for patients with acute pain under supervision
Rotate between recovery areas within the department to ensure a flexible service is provided
Anaesthetic Nurse Duties
Provide assistance to the anaesthetist and surgeons in a variety of situations, including those required in all outlying areas
Hold knowledge of specialist equipment used in theatre and outlying areas and promote its safe, effective use
Work at a high level of autonomy particularly in out of hours work, following a period of preceptorship
Maintain a clean environment to minimise the risk of cross infection and maximise the control of infection.

Theatre experienced ODP/Nurse with a knowledge of health and safety, infection control and moving and handling. The successful applicants must be able to communicate effectively with all members of the multi professional team.
