Job summary

The appointee will be responsible for day to day patient care, ward rounds, operating theatres, clinics and teaching. The post incumbent will be attached to one particular surgeon at one time but should be available for cross cover to colleagues during the day and night times. The post holder will also be expected to perform the operations according to his/her ability and run clinics at Pilgrim and periphery. During this time, he/she will be working under the supervision of the consultant and will be expected to increase his/her surgical expertise.The appointee will be providing an on-call duty, work weekends, nights and long days as per rota and will occasionally be expected to work in unforeseen circumstances. The post holder will have 6 programmed activity sessions allocated to direct patient care, 3 for supporting clinical activity and one for CPD..The post holder will have the opportunity to actively participate in the Endoscopy Unit.The post holder will be responsible for supervising the FY1 and FY2 doctors and work closely with the consultants.

Main duties of the job

As part of United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust's commitment to meeting the Health care needs of the local population, applications are invited for the posts of Trust Specialty Doctor in General Surgery at Lincoln County Hospital.

The post is a 10 PA basic, 1x Clinic 2x Theatre, as well as on calls and weekends.

The Speciality Doctors works as a team, supported by their Senior and Junior medical staff.

To participate in clinical activities (Theatre, Clinic, Ward cover, and General Surgery on call cover). To engage actively in teaching, audits and Clinical Governance programs within the department. The post's incumbent will be attached to one particular surgeon at one time but should be available for cross cover to colleagues during the day and night times.

Essential

  • Full GMC registration
  • MB ChB
  • MRCS or equivalent

Desirable

  • FRCS or equivalent.

Experience

  • A minimum of 3 years medical work post registration
  • A minimum of 10 months experience in General Surgery
