Job summary

Consultant in Ophthalmology with a Special Interest in Medical Retina or any other sub-speciality complementary to the department.

These posts have been assessed as attracting 10 basic PA's per week plus additional programmed activities by separate negotiation. This is a Pan Trust appointment with majority of the work being done in and around Boston. You will be joining a team of twelve consultants providing comprehensive Ophthalmology services to the 750,000 strong population of Lincolnshire. Day-case surgery and out-patient clinics are provided across the county on 7 sites covered by the trust.

You will be supported by 6 speciality doctors and 2 foundation doctors along with 2 nurse specialists.

The Trust has close educational and research ties with the University of Lincoln. The Ophthalmology Department has a commitment to undergraduate and postgraduate education with close ties to the Medical Schools of the Universities of Nottingham and Leicester.

The Department has recently undergone extensive upgrading and modernisation. There are 6 consulting rooms, a dedicated fields room, treatment room, 2 pre-assessment rooms, a minor operations room and an investigations/photography room. There are specialist nurse-led glaucoma, oculoplastics and post-op clinics and orthoptic-led shared care clinics along with general and special ophthalmic clinics.

Main duties of the job

The outpatient department is fully equipped for digital fluorescein angiography, digital fundus photography, OCT, pachymetry, Argon and YAG laser photocoagulation, diagnostic B scan ultrasound and biometry.

There is a treatment room and a WET AMD injection room for routine minor ops and procedures in clinic. There are extensive facilities for teaching and training with teaching slit lamps.

Within the outpatient department is a fully staffed Orthoptic Department providing services to the outlying hospitals and local authority clinics.

There is a dedicated and well-equipped operating theatre withLumera T microscope, video recording system and state of the art phaco-emulsification equipment with micro incision capabilities.

All day case patients are cared for in a dedicated Day Case Ward.

Applicants should be fully registered with the UK General Medical Council or be within 6 months of completion of CCT at the time of interview.
