Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Scientist to be the Deputy Head of Clinical Engineering for United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT).

ULHT, situated in the county of Lincolnshire, is one of the biggest acute hospital trusts in England . We provide acute & specialist services to people in Lincolnshire & neighbouring counties. We have an annual income of £447 million & we employ nearly 8,000 people.

Clinical Engineering team has teams in three hospital sites at Lincoln, Boston, & Grantham.

The successful candidate will:

  • contribute to the services we provide across the Trust &,
  • be a Clinical Engineering Expert specialising in clinical technical & safety activities in the application of a wide-range of medical equipment in clinical settings in acute & community hospitals.

Informal visits to the department are encouraged.

Main duties of the job

You will support & empower the team to deliver high quality services to support excellent patient care ensuring key decisions on technical approach & delivery are appropriate, timely, & communicated. The successful candidate will lead the team in terms of technical strategy & direction, always focusing on continuous improvement of the team. You will coach & mentor them, lead with empathy & mindful of inclusion & wellbeing while the Trust continues to scale its medical device inventory. The role involves the management of medical devices in line with legislation; MRHA & statutory.

You will have big plans for the future & are clear on the challenges you face, ideally be someone process driven who can look at the longer term vision & think about, how do we get there & what do we do to achieve that, someone who can look at the team & think strategically about long term KPIs & what that means for the team.

County Hospital Louth serves the communities of Louth & the local area. It provides a number of services including an outpatient department, diagnostic & surgical procedures & an inpatient surgical ward.

  • BSc Honours degree (1st or 2nd class) in a relevant subject
  • MSc in relevant specialist subject or equivalent
  • Membership of IPEM or equivalent professional body
  • Registered Clinical Scientist with HCPC

Desirable

  • Chartered Engineer CEng / Chartered Scientist
  • PhD in relevant subject area or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Substantial experience in role of Clinical Engineering Expert
  • Substantial experience in (1) developing tender specifications and leading purchasing processes, (2) in developing medical equipment configuration settings, (3) in undertaking root cause analysis of adverse incidents.
  • Experience with quality standards
  • Leadership and management experience

  • Record of publications / presentations
