Job summary
You will be working in a complex care environment, taking care of patients who have dementia or long term medical conditions such as Parkinsons Disease. You will be working on all shift patterns, providing high quality patient care with compassion and integrity.
You will receive first class support and direction from the ward sister and the nursing team. We will actively encourage the successful applicants to continue with their own professional and personal development. The successful candidates will need to work as an active member of the team and at all times deliver high standards of patient care, while maintaining a positive experience for the patients. Your responsibilities will be to take charge while taking responsibility for the 4 patients in the SDEC area and support the ward where necessary. During quieter period out of SDEC hours you will be expected to support ward sister with continuous ward improvements and audits.

Lancaster Ward is a 16 bedded unit caring for frail patients both male and female for a length of stay of less than 72 hours. Additional to this is our same day emergency care area which has 4 spaces to assess, treat and aim to discharge the same day. The unit currently takes transfers from MEAU but also direct admissions to the ward and Frailty SDEC area direct from ED. It's early days with frailty SDEC but soon we hope to take direct admissions from EMAS and GP referrals. The service is ever growing for frailty and there are exciting opportunities arising. A fantastic opportunity has currently arisen for a Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to join our team and support the developments of our area. This is an incredible chance for a pro-active, positive , caring and friendly person to be part of a wonderful developing nursing team.
The ward has recently moved to an area with space and visibility for the patients. The staff pride themselves on high standards of care. We are passionate and put the patient at the centre of all we do.
Frail older people are complex with a myriad of care needs and they face many challenges during this phase of life. Caring for them and ensuring a safe, efficient, hospital admission and a timely discharge is a valuable skill which is useful in any care environment. We have a dedicated Geriatrician medical team, Frailty Nurse consultant and a team of Frailty ACP's as well as a wider multi disciplinary team who work closely together to ensure the best treatment and care is available for our patients.
