Children's Surgical Specialist Nurse

Job summary

The post holder will take responsibility under the direction of the Lead Consultant(s) to deliver an expert nursing service to patients within the paediatric surgical service covering both Urology and Gastroenterology conditions, from diagnosis until discharge, transition to the adult service or terminal care.

You will deliver specialist-nursing skills, demonstrate sound clinical knowledge and expertise in the autonomous management of children and young people within the paediatric surgical service.

You will ensure that patients and their families are educated, informed and supported by providing clinical and social support in relation to their specific diagnosis and treatment plans.

Main duties of the job

It will be necessary to work flexibly across a caseload of patients across both the hospital and community setting for local patients and to provide expert advice to other health care professionals and initiate guidelines based therapies that address acute management issues across a variety of urological and gastroenterological conditions.

The post holder will contribute to the development of evidence based clinical nursing practice in line with current research and guidelines and will participate in audit.

The post holder will work across organisational, regional and national boundaries and form good working relationships with colleagues in the Tertiary center's of Leeds and Sheffield and within the wider Surgery in Children ODN.
