The Department of Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism is managed within the Specialist Medicine Care Group and located within a dedicated outpatient unit at the Allam Diabetes Centre (opened in 2021) at the Hull Royal Infirmary site.

The inpatient case load consists of specialty diabetes and endocrinology cases alongside general medicine inpatients.

There is an on-call rota for diabetes and endocrinology, currently 1:7.5. This provides specialty advice 24/7, weekend base-ward consultant rounds Saturday and Sunday with specialty in-reach to the Acute Medical Unit (AMU) and H36 (specialty ward holding area near AMU), supported by junior medical staff. The post-holder may be required to work in the Acute Medical Unit on a sessional basis but this would be no more than 2 sessions per week.
