Job summary

The post holder as a specialist Mechanical Engineering Technician within the Technical Development Group (TDG) provides mechanical engineering development and design support to departments throughout the Trust and Community whilst also providing support to research projects as appropriate.

The work is innovative and involves research development and working with a wide range of materials and equipment.

Main duties of the job

Applications are complex and specialised, requiring high precision and lead to the development and construction of prototype devices, which aid in a wide range of patient treatment and an improved quality of living to a section of the community.

Many different types of calibration apparatus and phantoms are produced for the setting up and calibration of equipment in areas of Oncology, Radiation Physics, CT, MRI, X-ray and Nuclear Medicine.

The work also involves the design and manufacture of aids and adaptations for the disabled and carers to enable them to maintain independence.
