Job summary

The provisional work programme will follow a 5 week cycle. The first week will be devoted to emergencies only. The following four weeks will have clinics, day surgery lists and Inpatient lists. A standard full time Job Plan will contain 10 programmed activities. Any extra programmed activities will be agreed at the job planning process with the Clinical Director. Any such agreement will be made in writing and the additional programmed activities will be incorporated into the Job Plan schedule.

Main duties of the job

To provide leadership and support to the paediatric surgical service, delivering outpatient, day case and in patient care at the Hull and East Yorkshire Hospitals Trust. To work as part of the consultant, nursing and Divisional team providing high quality surgical services for children which are responsive to them and their families. To provide high quality surgical care for patients requiring both elective and non-elective surgical intervention. To work collaboratively with other specialities, including gastroenterology, neonatology, radiology, anaesthetics, paediatrics sub-specialities and emergency medicine. To ensure personal and organisational responsibility for safeguarding children and young people is effective. To contribute to the delivery of services which are financially responsible and efficient. To work with the academic department of paediatrics and establish a respected research programme and presence in national and international peer reviewed journals and meetings. To contribute to undergraduate training and teaching of undergraduate medical students. To provide high quality postgraduate experience and teaching to doctors, nurses and allied health professionals in training. To work closely with clinicians and colleagues from neighbouring NHS organisations regarding clinical care which is relevant to this speciality and post-holder. To participate in the development of regional solutions for surgical services for children and young people.
