Job summary

The Eye Hospital at HUTH is a purpose-built dedicated unit facilitating eye surgery and in-patient management located on the Hull Royal Infirmary site.

Hull University NHS Trust will be the base hospital for this consultant post but the Trust is continually developing close links with its partner organisation; North Lincolnshire and Goole Foundation Trust. Consultants may in the future be job planned to work across both sites.

Paediatric surgery occurs in designated theatre list within Family and Women's Children's hospital. For Ophthalmology adult surgery, there are 3 operating theatres; each equipped with a ceiling mounted operating microscope, Stellaris Elite phacoemulsification/VR equipment with integral laser modules, wide field viewing system available for 2 theatres, and other appropriate equipment including a range of disposable small gauge instrumentation. Video recording equipment is a high quality digital system. Cyclodiode & Retinal Diopexy are regularly performed with an Iridex system from Carlton Ltd. The department is equipped with a state-of-the-art cataract and refractive suite working in close conjunction with Bausch and Lomb.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will assume a direct clinical role within the department, sharing all facilities equally with the existing consultants. This is a substantive post (10 PAs) and the appointee will be joining 21 Consultant Ophthalmologist posts already established. The successful candidate will work 10 PA's a week, which will include an 8 DCC and 2 SPA split (Flexible working may be considered). It is expected that the successful applicant will play an active role in the consultant on call rota.
