Consultant Pharmacist Haematology

Are you an expert practitioner in cancer care, with highly developed leadership skills including the ability to influence at scale? We are looking to recruit into the exciting new post of Consultant Pharmacist Haematology.

The Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides care to patients with Haematological Malignancies (including bone marrow transplant) alongside all common solid tumours at the Queens Centre based at our Castle Hill Hospital site.

You will be have the opportunity to share the leadership on systemic anti-cancer treatments (SACT) as the Trusts Lead Consultant for SACT, alongside the existing pharmacy cancer services team. You will be working closely with the Lead Consultant for Haematology, Consultant Haematologists, specialist clinical nurses, lead cancer nurses and managers to maximise the safe and effective care of our patients.

You will provide the link with local clinicians and commissioners, working with NHSE specialist commissioning, Cancer Alliance, Integrated Care System groups, and industry to lead regional projects.

Main duties of the job

You will be expected to provide clinical cover to the haematology ward, managing a wide variety of malignant and non-malignant haematology patients, and using your expert clinical practice in outpatient clinics alongside Haematologists, as well as developing the role of pharmacist prescribers across cancer services both at Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and working collaboratively with neighbouring trust North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust.

You will be given dedicated time to support education, research and development, with opportunities to publish and undertake practice research.

We are committed to keeping our patients safe when we use systemic anticancer treatments SACT and supportive therapies, and we deliver this commitment strategically through our trust systemic anti-cancer treatment committee. Through the application of medicines optimisation principles, the post holder will help patients to improve their outcomes with SACT; take their medicines correctly; reduce wastage of medicines; and improve safety in relation to SACT.

If you have not yet completed credentialing by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, please note we will consider candidates who don't meet all the essential criteria as a progression against agreed milestones, which will be considered on the basis of Appendix 21 of Agenda for Change. The Consultant Pharmacist Haematology post has been accredited by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
