Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust

Locum Consultant Cardiologist in Devices

Information:

This job is now closed

Job summary

Cardiology across the Humber is undergoing transformation - Hull University Teaching Hospitals as the tertiary centre working alongside North Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Trust. This brings an exciting opportunity to join more than 20 cardiologists in one of the largest and most progressive cardiology units in the NHS. The work / life balance in this part of the world is incomparable, with opportunities for career development, teaching, research, service development and being part of a forward-looking cardiology service.

The post holder will be appointed primarily to support the device service at both Castle Hill Hospital and NLAG. For candidates with additional expertise (eg PCI, imaging or heart failure) there is the opportunity for this work to be incorporated into the job plan and undertaken at NLAG.

Consultants will be employed by Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. There are close links with Hull York Medical School (HYMS) and Hull is its own training deanery for cardiology - training 15 specialist registrars in cardiology.

Living and working in this part of the world offers beautiful scenery, competitive house prices, first rate schooling and easy transport links. From the nearby market town of Beverley (Sunday Times 'top 10 liveable places' in the North), the City of Hull or the sprawling countryside of North Lincolnshire - there is a typical friendly welcoming lifestyle for everyone who joins the team.

Main duties of the job

Clinical work will be split across the two organisations. You will work across a compact geography; Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital are 6 miles apart, Hull and Scunthorpe and Grimsby are 30-40 minutes apart by car. All appointees will have job plans designed to minimise travel and maximise the amount of remote working that is done.

The job plan will include: One to two days of cath lab activity a week; 2 clinics; admin and SPA time including weekly Friday afternoon CME. In-patient / ward work as Consultant of the week: 8 weeks per year of ward cover and contribution to the general cardiology on call rota on a 1 in 8 basis.

This locum appointment is for 6 months in the first instance when we expect to advertise for a substantive appointment.
