Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest acute Trusts' in the country. The Trust supports a variety of tertiary services and is both a Major Cancer Centre and a Major Trauma Centre.
Applications are invited for the post of Dental Core Trainee to work at the equivalent level of Dental Core Training (1, 2) to work in the Humberside Maxillo-Facial Consortium with exposure to multiple sites. This post is designed to provide a wide experience in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in hospitals across the North and South Bank of the Humber.
The post holder is required to be continuously registered with the General Dental Council, Registration status will be required.

Main duties of the job
Duties
- Day to day management of in-patients.
- Attendance at in-patient operating lists.
- Attendance at out-patient clinics.
- Post operative discharge.
- Actively participating in day stay operating sessions.
- Performance of minor procedures under local anaesthetic.
- Responsibility for accepting and assessing acute referrals from GPs and the Accident and Emergency Department
On-Call Duties
There is a Full Shift pattern in operation, all out of hours work is carried out from the Hull Royal Infirmary. All juniors will carry out their out of hours duties at the Hull Royal Infirmary. Prospective cover for annual and study leave is built into the working pattern.
This is a non-resident post based in Hull, which involves duties in Scunthorpe and Grimsby hospitals (in rotation). By the end of the rotation, the appointee will have gained experience in the management of out-patient and in-patient oral and maxillofacial surgery including oral medicine, maxillofacial injuries, facial deformities, oral and facial malignancies.

In Hull, there are eight adult surgical beds and one or two paediatric beds as required. There are eight in-patient operating sessions. In addition, there are day stay lists within the Department using a six bed recovery area.
In Grimsby, the appointee will be involved with two theatre sessions, two treatment and two out-patient sessions. The Maxillofacial beds are on Ward B4, which is shared with ENT and Ophthalmology.
In Scunthorpe, the appointee will work in clinic and MOS sessions. Trainees can expect one to one teaching in Goole Hospital in day case operating and clinics. (Ward 7)
Clinical facilities within the Department in Hull are shared with the Consultants in Orthodontics, Mr Achwal/Misra and one Consultant in Restorative Dentistry, Ms P Gaitonde. Post holders may attend their clinics if they should so wish. The post is non-resident but single or married accommodation may be available if required.
