Band 5 Ultrasound Trainee Post

The ultrasound department of Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is delighted to announce 2 temporary trainee sonographer posts commencing September 2023. These posts provide the clinical support to undertake a Post Graduate Diploma in Medical Ultrasound offered by the University of Leeds.

We are seeking two highly motivated, hard-working individuals, who are able to commit to an intense, but highly rewarding training course. Applications are welcome from any health care professional with, or expected to achieve, a 2:1 or above graduate qualification in their area of expertise. Previous imaging experience is desirable and is essential if your first degree award is 2:2.

The training is delivered across all the HUTH and NLAG Ultrasound sites including a new regional Ultrasound training hub based in Driffield, in the centre of the East Riding of Yorkshire. Given the widespread location of the clinical training placements offered the post holder will be required to commute between various training sites within the patch, and the University of Leeds.

The post holder is required to hold, or be able to apply for, HCPC, NMC or GMC registration as a condition of employment.

Main duties of the job

  • To undertake practical training and assessment in medical ultrasound examinations; including general medical, gynaecology and obstetrics.
  • To complete the academic content and assessment required of the Postgraduate Diploma provided by the agreed Higher Education Institution - University of Leeds.
  • To attend a minimum of 80% of the taught academic modules.
  • To work as part of a multidisciplinary team providing a high quality diagnostic ultrasound service whilst maintaining high standards of patient care. This includes clinical and administrative work.
  • To ensure that practice is undertaken in accordance with department policies and protocols.
  • To undertake all ultrasound procedures delegated by the advanced practitioners and acquire a good level of skill and knowledge in all aspects of ultrasound encountered on the departmental rotation.
