We are the Medical Physics Department of the Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust and offer you an extraordinary workplace to undertake a 3 year apprenticeship programme, giving you training and the experience of working in one of our clinical teams whilst you study for a fully funded BSc degree. What is the role?
The Nuclear Medicine service provides diagnostic (imaging) and therapeutic nuclear medicine service at Hull Royal Infirmary and Castle Hill Hospital. The department has three gamma cameras that are used to produce images created by measuring the radiation emitted from the patient following injection with radio-active pharmaceuticals. Two of our cameras are state of the art and we have several exciting new developments (including the new Molecular Imaging Research Centre) underway. This apprenticeship would suit someone who has an interest in, and would enjoy, a patient-facing career in imaging.
Who are we looking for?
The post will be demanding, you will need to be able to demonstrate good communication and team working skills along with an enthusiasm for science and healthcare. The successful candidate will need to be in post to commence degree learning by September 2023.
Main duties of the job
Eligibility and entry requirements
- a minimum of 3 GCSE grades A*-C including Maths and English (GCSE Grade C/new grade 5 or above) and (or expecting to have by Sept 2023)
- 96 UCAS Points (CCC equivalent) OR,
- BTEC Level 4 Diploma in Healthcare Science OR,
- BTEC National Extended Dip (MMM) at Level 3.
- must include at least one recognised science
You must be aged 18 or over on its commencement in September 2023 and have been resident in the UK/EU for the last three years. You must not hold a similar healthcare science degree or be in any form of formal government-funded education.
Future Prospects
Upon successful completion of the accredited BSc (Hons) apprenticeship, you will be eligible for entry on the professional register for clinical technologists. Roles within the Medical Physics are currently in high demand with a national shortage of registered practitioners, including in our own hospitals.
