We are looking for a compassionate and experienced mental health practitioner / community nurse to join our lively and passionate Mental Health and Wellbeing team. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside veterans, the people who care and support them and our experienced multidisciplinary team I order to promote recovery and improve wellbeing.
Some of our team have a personal connection to veterans, either with a military background or holding a close relationship with someone who does.
The impact of trauma, transition from the military and mental health difficulties can affect the whole family. Op Courage believes that recovery is not just about the individual - it is about strengthening the family unit as a whole. When families, carers and friends are supported, veterans are better able to recover, adapt and thrive.
Main duties of the job
The family worker role is an integral part of a small specialist nursing team. You will have direct contact with families, carers and friends, and you will identify their individual needs to create support pathways for families of veterans receiving support from Op Courage.
The role will include assessment, recovery planning and co-ordination for families, as well as provision of welfare support, guidance and advice. In liaison with other Op Courage colleagues, the postholder will be responsible for enhancing the veterans' family's sense of security, self-management, independence, and their ability to improve overall quality of life.
Op Courage covers Kent, Surrey and Sussex and deliver assessments, support and psychological therapy within our Op Courage team. This post can be based in either Sussex, Kent or Surrey but cover to all regions is required, through a mix of face-to-face and remote appointments

The Family Worker will work as part of the multidisciplinary professional team within Op Courage - The Veterans Mental Health and Wellbeing Service. This position engages directly with families and carers of UK veterans who are experiencing mental health challenges. The role will deliver safe, effective care with a strong focus on supporting families and carers and fostering therapeutic relationships.
The Family Worker will work in partnership with families and carers to ensure that the service users health needs are met. They will demonstrate an understanding of nursing interventions relevant to the care group including health education, clinical care, Wellness Recovery Action Plans (WRAP), and discharge planning
To work within the MDT in identifying Op Courage Veterans families with additional needs including mental health, financial and support needs.
To be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilising appropriate assessments.
To take part in all quality initiatives actively supporting and participating in both policies and service developments in the specific care group.
Carry a caseload, actively working with family and carers.
To co-develop and deliver educational workshops to help develop family members' understanding of common mental health difficulties which their veteran family member may be facing.
To co-develop care group specific brief interventions to support family members in their support of Veterans, utilising evidence-based models of practice.
The family Worker will be expected to travel around the region as required and deliver both online and face to face work in the community and home visits as appropriate.
