Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced client-side Senior Project Manager to join the Programmes & Projects team within the Estates & Facilities Division of Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This role offers the chance to play a pivotal part in shaping the future of mental health care environments, directly contributing to patient recovery and well-being.

Reporting to the Head of the Estates PMO, you will be integral to the successful delivery of key projects within the Trust's Capital Programme, managing a diverse portfolio of projects ranging from £50k refurbishments to £10m+ capital developments. You will oversee projects from inception to completion, ensuring they are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest standards.

Main duties of the job

Working across the Trust, you will engage with internal teams, Trust stakeholders, external design teams, project professionals, and construction contractors, ensuring smooth collaboration and adherence to agreed specifications, timelines, and financial controls. This role spans a variety of healthcare settings, including live inpatient wards, rehabilitation houses, and community buildings, requiring sensitivity to working in complex environments.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated Project Manager with a construction industry recognised qualification, has working knowledge of HTM's & HBN's related to Mental Health and a minimum of 3 years experience in a health care setting. The ideal candidate will have strong skills in design, construction, and strategic project management, with the ability to navigate stakeholder engagement and the challenges of healthcare environments.

Manage and deliver a wide range of capital estates projects in line with the Trusts capital plan and estates strategy. Supporting and assisting with the Trusts other construction related projects.

Provide effective construction related project management across a varying number of individual projects in size and complexity, from initial brief to project completion ensuring compliance with relevant statutory and non-statutory standards, health & safety guidance, regulations, codes of practice, NHS guidance documents, British Standards, building regulations and planning authority guidance.

Be the interface between the Trusts wide-ranging stakeholders, external design teams and contractors to ensure all schemes are developed and delivered in accordance with agreed specifications, timeframes and buildings.

Be expected to advise and produce technical specifications relating to construction projects

  • Educated to degree or equivalent level of knowledge around NHS Estates work with relevant experience
  • Industry recognised professional qualification
  • Project management qualification or applied experience in Estates NHS work

EXPERIENCE

Essential

  • Estates Healthcare Project Management experience; including managing and delivering complex multiple projects across boundaries.
  • Experience of working in a constantly changing environment without direct supervision and using initiative in prioritising and making decisions
  • Experience in the design process from inception through to completion. Project closures and post project evaluation.
  • Have experience of briefing, commissioning and monitoring Consultant services, architects, engineers, structural engineers, quantity surveyors and other consultants
  • Experience of managing works in an occupied ward or building
  • Management of budgets and forecasted spend
  • Experience of managing contractors, dealing with grievances, poor performance, quality of workmanship
