Job summary
We're searching for a highly organised, motivated and confident Health and Safety Manager who is committed to putting the safety of the people who need our specialist mental health services first.
The successful candidate will have experience of working in a professional health and safety role with a sound knowledge of health and safety principles, legislation and best practice, with a diploma level recognised qualification in Risk and / or Health and Safety in addition to a good knowledge of NHS governance.
They will also have excellent team and communication skills and be able to influence best practice that will improve the health and safety of our staff, patients and visitors.
We're looking for someone who will champion and promote a positive health and safety culture across the Trust and provide comprehensive support and technical advice on various health and safety matters.
In so doing, the role will involve regular visits to clinical and non-clinical services, working directly with managers and staff, delivering training, auditing, inspections and incident investigations.
You're going to need to be flexible, able to prioritise and work under your own initiative.
The role will be based in Worthing but will require travel across Sussex and Hampshire.
Main duties of the job
To support the Head of Health and Safety in the provision of expert support, advice, training and leadership on all aspects of health and safety and support the identification, management, reporting, investigation and learning from health and safety risks and incidents.
To work to the Health and Safety Management framework in the Health and Safety Executive Guidance HS(G) 65 and The Health and Safety at Work Etc Act 1974 and associated legislation and regulation.
Ensure that the Trust meets the requirements of the CQC Fundamental Standards of Care in relation to Health and Safety.
Facilitate the development of robust health and safety strategies and systems within the Trust.
Provide high quality risk assessment and health and safety training.
Contribute to external assessments and promote the achievement of legislative and regulatory standards and requirements.
