Job summary
A specialist opportunity has arisen for an Older People Mental Health Liaison Practitioner to work within our friendly and supportive liaison service (OPMH) based at St Richard's General Hospital, Chichester. The Post cover attendances in the Emergency Department and St Richards Hospital wards
The role is as part of a multi-disciplinary team providing high standards of assessments and treatment for older people (65 and older) admitted to St Richard's. Our patients will have an accompanying physical health need and referrals to our service are usually made when their mental health issues (functional and organic needs) present with complicating factors during their admission.
The successful applicant will also be expected to provide an expert advisory role, education and training to colleagues at the Hospital. You will have excellent communication and assessment skills and a working knowledge of physical health conditions.
You must be confident in your ability to support patients with complex mental illnesses and their families/carers. Most importantly, must be a team player who is also able to work autonomously and forge strong links with our community colleagues. Two years post registration experience is required and you wouldhave ideally worked within Community Mental Health Settings or Liaison services.

Main duties of the job
- To provide comprehensive assessments/ risk assessments of mental health specific to the needs of the client, in line with the ethos and targets of the liaison service.
- To manage clients 65 years and over with complex mental health needs, considering how risks can be best managed within a general hospital environment.
- To be able to communicate with and meet the needs of families and carers as appropriate to the care group and the individual client.
