We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic BABCP registered Senior Cognitive Behavioural Therapist to join our psychological therapies within Working Age Adult services. Your role will be in both Oaklands acute inpatient ward and Connolly House inpatient rehabilitation service. The successful applicant will have opportunities for training in family interventions in psychosis and CBT for psychosis e.g. 'Feeling Safe' (Freeman et al), Slow-Mo (Garety et al.Oakland Centre is a 16 bedded purpose-built acute inpatient psychiatric unit which provides a service to working age adults with acute mental health problems. Connolly House is a 12 bedded purpose built in-patient psychiatric rehabilitation unit which provides holistic, individualised, recovery -focussed care. You will be well-supported, working closely with your professional lead in acute services and closely linked a community of local practitioner psychologists. we are building our psychosis, complex emotional difficulties and mood pathways. Successful applicants, can make choices about which pathway they wish to be involved in. You will be supported within job plans to be part of Clinical Academic Groups, which provide access to specialist training such as Daniel Freeman's Feeling Safe Programme. We also have links to Surrey University's Clinical Psychology training programme.

Main duties of the job

You will offer a specialist CBT assessment, formulation and interventions for individuals, who present with severe and enduring mental health problems. A focus on a collaborative and strengths-based approach is essential to this role. There is also potential to provide or contribute to specialist group CBT or psychoeducational groups if required, The role will also include CBT consultancy to MDT's and staff, including those working with challenging and complex clients, and there will be opportunities to contribute to the development and delivery of service development. As a senior member of our Psychological Therapies team in West Sussex, you will be required to offer supervision to other psychological professionals within the service as well as contributing to the senior leadership team. You will have regular clinical and professional supervision including specialist clinical supervision (i.e. EMDR, DBT, CBT). We have a strong network of diverse and supportive psychology colleagues who meet regularly as part of peer networking across West Sussex and the wider SPFT.

There are also opportunities to be involved in staff training, staff wellbeing, service development, reflective practice and case formulation with team. As a service, we recognise the importance of valuable supervision and CPD and you will be well supported by an experienced and supportive team with good access to CPD opportunities and specialist supervision (e.g. EMDR / High Risk Case Supervision).

  • Substantial post-qualification/accreditation experience of specialist psychological therapy (assessment, formulation and treatment), as specified in the Appendix, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • A high level of competence in applying a psychological therapy to complex difficulties appropriate for this therapy with the client group served by the post, and a proven track record of delivering positive outcomes in this therapy
  • Experience of offering teaching, training and supervision within a demanding organisational context
  • A clear and theoretically informed approach to supervision
  • Experience of representing psychological therapy within the context of multi-disciplinary care within a complex organisational context.
  • Significant experience of working with the particular client group served by the team/service
  • Knowledge of guidance and legislation in relation to the client group
  • A high level specialist knowledge of the theory and practice of specialist psychological therapy as specified in the appendix, as applied to the client group using this service
  • Experience of the application of psychological therapy in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework.
