Job summary

Assistant Psychologist (Band 4 0.8 wte) Adult Mental Health, HWLH Assessment & Treatment Service (ATS)

We are delighted to be advertising for a dynamic and hard-working Assistant Psychologist to join the High Weald, Lewes & The Havens (HWLH) Adult Mental Health Assessment & Treatment Service (ATS). This is an established post, working 9am-5pm, four days a week at Millwood in Uckfield which is a rural town set in beautiful Sussex countryside.

The ATS is a friendly, supportive multi-disciplinary team that delivers specialist care and clinical interventions to adults with severe and enduring mental health difficulties. This post provides an excellent opportunity for someone to gain experience of thinking and working psychologically with complex mental health presentations. There will also be opportunities to contribute to a number of Trust wide research clinics supporting innovative clinical practice. Training and staff development are important to us as a service and we have a good track record of supporting people to move on to further specialist training as Cognitive Behavioural Therapists and Clinical/counselling Psychologists.

Main duties of the job

We are looking for candidates who have prior experience of working within Adult Mental Health and we would like to hear from those who already have some experience of delivering psychological interventions on either a group or individual basis.

Good audit and evaluation skills are essential, together with knowledge about the application of client outcome measures and feedback tools and how they inform service change.

The successful applicant will therefore have excellent IT skills, be proficient in the use of Excel, Power Point, and data analysis and presentation and be generally well organised.

We are aware of the lack of diversity within the psychological professions and would welcome applications from people of the global majority. We would also encourage applications from those with lived experience of mental health difficulties.

The successful candidate will be involved in assisting with assessments, developing brief formulations and offering therapies using psychological models. The post will involve facilitating psychology groups and individual work with service users and carers. You will be involved in audits and projects to improve the quality of the care that the team provides.

About us

We are a cohesive and supportive team of six Psychologists and Psychological therapists. We regularly have trainees on placement. This post will be supervised weekly by one of the team Psychologists or Psychological therapists.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust aims to realise the potential of its service users and its staff. The Trust has teaching status and is developing into one of the country's leading teaching mental health trusts. Working here offers continued training and development, plus all the benefits of living in Sussex. We have close links with Sussex and Surrey universities and have been national innovators for psychological work with trauma, voice hearing, MBCT and Family interventions for Psychosis to name a few.

As a mental health trust Sussex Partnership places a huge focus on the wellbeing of our staff, as well as ensuring our reward packages reflect the immensely important work they do.

We can offer you:

  • Access to numerous wellbeing and support programmes, run by our internal wellbeing team

  • Access to a host of discount schemes (including gyms, shopping, restaurants and cars)
  • A position within a trust rated as 'Outstanding' for caring and 'Good' overall by the CQC
  • Generous holiday entitlement (starting at 27 days + 8 bank holidays)
