Job summary

We are currently recruiting to a Senior Practitioner Psychologist or Senior Psychological Therapist in our service. You will be joining a friendly and committed group of psychological professionals within a wider multidisciplinary team, dedicated to the provision of evidence-based, trauma-informed care to those in our communities.

You would be based in Chichester Assessment and Treatment Service, a community team providing treatment and support to people with severe and enduring mental health difficulties such as psychosis, complex emotional needs (CEN) and complex PTSD. You will have opportunities to train in psychological approaches used in our care pathways (e.g. Family interventions in psychosis, schema-informed CBT, EMDR). You will work closely with psychological professionals and senior colleagues across the patch and access specialist supervision.

We are looking for individuals with excellent clinical skills, an aptitude for engaging positively with colleagues, service users, and the wider community. You will be able to think creatively with partnership organisations, modelling our strong commitment to trauma-informed approaches, co-production, and inclusion.

Main duties of the job

As a psychological professional, you will offer assessments, formulations, and evidence-based interventions for people with a range of mental health difficulties. As the posts sits within community services, you will offer supervision and training to both psychological professionals as well as multidisciplinary colleagues. There will also be opportunities to build close working relationships with our local community of psychological professionals working into other teams. We have strong links with our Research and Development Department and there are multiple opportunities to work alongside R&D colleagues in embedding good practice and evaluating our work. For exampled the new SuPER clinic led by Prof Kathy Greenwood (see attached information) and Compassionate Resilience Group trials for cPTSD led by Prof Nick Grey and Deborah Lee

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained before 1996 or outside the UK*] as approved by the HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology
  • For forensic psychologists working in forensic settings: Masters degree (with the award of the British Psychological Society qualification in forensic psychology or equivalent).
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HCPC).

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment of clients across the full range of care settings, including outpatient, community, primary care and in patient settings
  • Demonstrate specialist experience gained postqualification of working as an applied psychologist with evidence of having received a substantial amount of clinical supervision (normally in the region of approximately 50 hours).
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research methodology, research design and complex, multivariate data analysis as practiced within the clinical fields of psychology.
  • Experience of working with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course presenting problems that reflect the full range of clinical severity including maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
