Job summary

A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen within The Sussex Adults Eating Disorder Team for a Nurse Consultant.

As Nurse Consultant you will already be experienced in working with Eating Disorder (ED) clients and have a sound clinical and management background. You will enjoy being a team builder, supporting the development of staff, and will be a key part of leading the service in its expansion. You will be an advocate for parity of esteem for those with mental health needs.You will provide strategic clinical leadership for nursing and work with the senior leadership team and other professionals of the ED Service. The post will support the development of nursing across all ED Services, linking closely with relevant ICS's as well as and other providers. As such, you are expected to take an active part in the development of governance arrangements in order to ensure the highest possible clinical standards are delivered across the service and that care is proactive, innovative and progressive.The Nurse Consultant will work with relevant partners and SPFT colleagues to develop and deliver the strategy for nursing.The post holder will bring a bio- psycho - social perspective to the Multi-Disciplinary Team ensuring the systematic provision of high quality specialist treatment to Adults.

Main duties of the job

  • To provide senior nurse leadership to the nursing staff of the Eating Disorders service
  • Provide leadership, motivation and vision in the development and implementation of care pathways for patients of the Eating Disorders service.
  • Will work across inter-service boundaries, developing effective relationships with other disciplines and agencies eg: MHLT's, general hospitals, CRHTTs, ATS's.
  • To provide strategic clinical leadership in relation to the monitoring and management of clinical risk and ensure that protocols are in place to manage patients care and to ensure staff within the teams practice accordingly.
  • To be responsible for providing training to the staff in physical monitoring of patients with eating disorders and associated physical risk management.
  • Co-lead with the service consultant psychiatrist in the development and implementation of clinical policies and protocols in the Eating Disorder service.
  • Advise and lead on the future planning of strategic directions and service developments in relation to nurse led and multi-disciplinary care in the Eating Disorder service.
  • To use advanced theoretical and practical knowledge gained from postgraduate study in order to develop Eating Disorders Services initiatives that will be applicable for multi-professional staff. These be demonstrated across the four pillars of advanced clinical practice: Education, Research, Clinical expertise, Leadership.
