Job summary

To be responsible for operational line management of all SOAMHS & Dementia services in a defined area, (HWL&H or Eastbourne or Hastings). This includes line management responsibility for:

Inpatient (integrated or dementia wards)

SOAMHS & Dementia community services

This post has lead accountability for the delivery of objectives outlined below and included within the area of 'patient experience'.

Promote and deliver the Modern Matron (MM) agenda, as defined by the Department of Health.

Main duties of the job

Provide a visible, accessible and authoritative presence in clinical settings and related forums, to patients, carers and staff, demonstrating clear and effective clinical leadership

Ensure that the highest standards of care are aspired to and achieved within the resources

Deliver effective governance, achieve performance targets, use information and data effectively to improve quality and minimize

Achieve an agreed set of health and social care performance targets. Provide services within the agreed financial resources and achieve all financial targets, including cost efficiency savings ensuring maximum value in terms of clinical and cost effectiveness.

To contribute in the planning and delivery of service objectives, managing specific change projects as required, ensuring customer focus, consistency, quality, and cost effectiveness. Respond to Serious Untoward Incidents (SUIs), complaints and communications, ensuring timely and thorough investigation, effective communication of recommendations and closely monitoring actions to ensure they are fully implemented.

To develop care that is customer focused, non-stigmatising, accessible and responsive to local need.

  • Registered Mental Health or Learning Disability Nurse
  • Educated to degree level (or equivalent)
  • Post qualification study to Master's level (or equivalent)
  • Completion of Mentorship Course/ENB equivalent
  • Meet NMC requirement for maintenance of registration

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience as Ward Manager or equivalent in the community
  • Extensive previous experience in working with Older People
  • Demonstration of personal development
  • Experience working with people with serious mental health problems
  • Demonstrable working knowledge of Health and Social Care governance
  • Experience of staff management.
