An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Graduate Mental Health Practitioner in our community mental health team. Sussex Partnership is proud to be developing these new roles which have become part of our experienced workforce. The post holder will have a degree, and a Post graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice (PGCMH), having completed placements and been assessed with competencies in assessment of mental health needs, and risk assessment.

The Graduate Mental Health Training Programme is a joint venture between Higher Education and the NHS. The roles are informed by bio-psychosocial models of health care for people with severe and complex mental health difficulties. Graduate Mental health Practitioners will help provide outstanding care and treatment, co-ordinate care provided, support people with their recovery journey, offer time limited interventions, monitor risks, and collaborate with carers and families.

The successful applicant will join a friendly, highly skilled, and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team which includes consultant psychiatrists, community psychiatric nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, peer support workers and support workers. You will be providing high quality mental health care, with multi-disciplinary colleagues, where staff well-being is a high priority.

Main duties of the job

To work with other members of the multidisciplinary team to facilitate the development and delivery of recovery-focussed care. This includes contributing to the full range of routine care tasks, facilitating group and individual activities, information gathering and analysis to inform a multi-disciplinary formulation, audit and specific psychologically informed interventions within the scope of post graduate qualification. You will put service users' needs at the heart of the job, keeping people safe, contributing to effective interventions, and responding compassionately to suffering.

After a suitable period of training and supervised practice, and when assessed formally as competent, you will work in partnership with service users in community mental health services, developing their care plans and recovery plans to enable them to lead fulfilling lives. You will demonstrate an understanding of clinical interventions relevant to the care group to include education, employment, housing, care plans and discharge planning, working closely with carers, families and partner agencies to facilitate this. The post holder will work at all times to promote the safety and the wellbeing of clients and their families/carers. The post holder will assess, plan and implement care.

The successful applicant will be offered regular supervision and additional training relevant to the role. After a preceptorship period of 6 months, with additional training and support you will be able to be a Lead Practitioner and carry a caseload.
