Job summary
Applications are invited from Practitioner Psychologists registered with the HCPC for a permanent Band 8a post (up to 22.5 hours per week) with options for flexible working in the Brighton & Hove in-patient service at Mill View Hospital.
You will be working across two of our in-patient services; Brunswick is a 10 bedded ward, supporting people with dementia of all ages, and Meridian is a 19 bedded age-integrated ward for people with functional mental health problems, primarily specialising in the care of people in later life and people who are younger with additional complexities due to their physical health or social circumstances.
You will be taking over an established post, in place since 2015 and which has shown the benefits a psychologist can bring to developing therapeutic care within in-patient services and enhancing the discharge pathway.
We are keen to support your professional development and will support you to undertake additional specialist training relevant to the post, plus the regular CPD opportunities for psychologists available in the Trust.
We would like to support you to develop a specialism within your role to build your expertise in an area of interest, such as within dementia, neuropsychology, developing skills in CAIT, trauma or complex emotional and relational needs. Main duties of the job
Our in-patient mental health service is multi-professional. Psychologists are valued members of the team, offering specialist assessment and intervention, including neuropsychology, to support formulation, differential diagnosis and care planning.
The successful candidate will have skills and interests in supporting colleagues to develop psychological thinking and in contributing psychological perspectives to patient's care plans whilst on the ward and following discharge.Psychological services in Brighton place a strong emphasis on co-production and and we welcome staff who share these values.
Ideally, the post-holder will have a specialist interest in working with people in later life and people experiencing a dementia, their families and carers and in developing skills in neuropsychology.
You will join a friendly, highly-skilled and enthusiastic multi-professional team and community of psychologists and psychological therapists working in in-patient services locally and across the trust. There will also be opportunities to connect with the broader psychological workforce working in Brighton & Hove.We are fortunate to have a neuropsychologist on the specialist register of Clinical Neuropsychologists and supervision can be provided to develop skills and competencies in this area.
You will be creative and flexible and able to educate and inspire others in working with people with dementia and people with complex mental health problems, their families and carers.
