Job summary

Are you a mental health nurse with a passion for working with severe mental illness in a recovery focused way? An excellent opportunity has become available to join the new Coastal West Sussex Enhanced Community Rehabilitation Service (based in Worthing, covering Adur, Arun and Worthing). It is an exciting time to join this expanding team as applicants will specialise in supporting service users who have experienced complex psychosis, treatment resistant psychosis, or a related significant mental illness as described within the NICE guidelines for Rehabilitation. The successful candidates will contribute towards the development of evidence based & recovery focused interventions to maximise peoples independence and enable them to lead fulfilling lives.

This vacancy is an exciting chance for Band 6 practitioners to join this MDT that prides itself on working collaboratively and holistically with service users who have severe and enduring mental illness. Whilst this role includes working with longer term service users and developing strong therapeutic relationships, the new aspect of the service includes the opportunity to do some short term, intervention focused rehabilitation work with service users who would benefit significantly from this enhanced intervention.

This post offers a Golden Hello, or a Relocation package up to a maximum of £2000. (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions. Please see attached Protocol document).

Main duties of the job

The Enhanced Community Rehabilitation Service is a new, exciting and innovative service in West Sussex. You will hold a small caseload of service users who are cared for within a recovery focused model of care as part of a wider MDT. There will also be excellent opportunities for Mental Health Nurses to undertake training and deliver specific evidence-based interventions such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Family Intervention work, and to contribute a nursing perspective to multi-disciplinary discussion and care planning.

In line with our Trust value of 'People First', evidence shows that people who are treated in the community and in the least restrictive way have better outcomes and that there is a group of people living with psychosis who would benefit significantly from rehabilitation interventions that you will be supported to deliver.

You will work in partnership with a diverse team of clinicians including Psychologists, Psychiatrists, Occupational Therapists, Social Workers Peer Support Workers and our third sector partners, to help us to provide this opportunity for the communities of West Sussex in line with national agendas of 'Getting It Right First Time' to have access to a whole system approach to recovery from mental ill health, maximising an individual's quality of life and social inclusion.

To protect the health and safety of our staff/workers, patients, and those attending our sites, we encourage our workforce to get fully vaccinated against COVID.

About us

Over the next five years, community mental health services are going to be undergoing a real transformation and you could be part of these exciting developments. Our community mental health teams are becoming part of a much more integrated network of services and our mental health clinicians will be central in driving the changes, in close partnership with our primary and third sector colleagues.

SPFT Nursing strategy has a focus on patient safety, promoting staff wellbeing, developing career pathways, continuing professional development, and improving quality. We are a training team and would be looking for you to actively support & develop our learners, trainee nursing associates & student nurses.

We recognise that working in mental health can be stressful so we prioritise staff welfare, providing regular supervision, reflective practice, mentoring, and any other support that our clinicians need to ensure their wellbeing

Our vision is to provide outstanding care and treatment; the people we employ are at the heart of making this vision a reality. If you've got the passion, the belief, the drive and the talent to help us achieve our vision then we would like to hear from you.

We encourage flexible working. We know that a positive work/life balance brings about huge health-related benefits, which has a positive impact on the care we provide. Please speak to us about flexible working, for example, partial home-working, part time hours, flexible start/finish times.
