Job summary

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated registered social worker to join the Multi-Disciplinary Team based at the Hellingly Centre, a secure hospital managed by the Forensic Healthcare Service.

As a Social Worker in the FHS, you must be friendly, approachable, motivated and hard working with a passion for delivering high quality care.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to effective team working, have excellent communication, assessment and risk management skills and be prepared to be actively involved in interventions to prepare people for discharge to the community.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be a registered social worker who will:Be a member of FHS Social Work team.

Provide for the social care needs of mentally disordered offenders detained in conditions of Low/Medium Secure.

Work with inpatients as part of the MDT providing secure recovery. Follow up discharged patients who may be under social supervision as part of the transition to the community.

Carry out a range of social work responsibilities within frame work of NHS and Community Care Act.

Be fully conversant with legal duties under MHA 1983, DCVA and MCA. Lead on the Safeguarding of Adults at Risk and Children.

Be fully conversant with Part 3 MHA and S117 Aftercare arrangements. Liaise with other agencies to plan complex discharge packages.

Have excellent report writing skills and the ability to prepare and present evidence to statutory bodies such as MHT's, MOJ and Parole Board. As part of the MDT attend ward rounds, CPA's and undertake related work.

Understand multi-agency information sharing protocols in the interest of public protection.Have an understanding of MAPPA procedures. Hold a complex case load.

Visit families to gather information and to offer support. Initiate carers assessments where needed.

Visit patients in out of area placements to attend CPA's, MHT's and Case Conferences to advise on and progress future discharge arrangements.

Liaise with Probation, VLO etc with regard to the rights of victims under DCVA.
