Substantive Band 4 Senior Health Care Assistant - CAMHS Eating Disorder Intensive Treatment Day Service

We are seeking to recruit a passionate, knowledgeable and dynamic Senior Health Care Assistant to join our Young Persons Eating Disorder Day Service (Springtide).

Based at Aldrington House (Hove) Springtide is a new provision following increased investment into the Eating Disorder pathway across Sussex, accepting referrals from East and West Sussex.

The clinical model is being developed to be based on the highly acclaimed Maudsley Intensive Treatment programme to offer support for 10 young people each day.

Springtide provides a group program for young people with an Eating Disorder diagnosis aged from 11-18 years of age. The program provides treatment for those with an Anorexia Nervosa/ Bulimia Nervosa and Atypical Anorexia Nervosa and supports recovery through Evidence Based Interventions.

The Day Service Aims include:

  • Supporting young people and families through a comprehensive 14-week group programme, entailing family therapy, CBT based groups, life skills and supported eating.
  • Prevention of need for an inpatient admission thereby allowing young people to be treated closer to home.

You will be joining the service at an exciting time as the team is new and developing, we are also undergoing further development and investment across the pathway. You will join a service of a highly skilled and experienced multidisciplinary team.

Main duties of the job

The Service provides interventions to support those with a diagnosed Eating Disorder in the community and prevent a hospital admission. The program operates Monday to Friday 9-5 and is a term-time program; during the school holidays we will review the program and service provision you will be expected to work during this time.

You will identify and deliver relevant treatments and interventions; liaising where appropriate with families, carers and the professional network. These include: -

  • To promote health and safety maintaining best practice in health, safety and security.
  • To support meals and snack time for young people and their families.
  • Physical health monitoring and support e.g. weight and height, blood pressure.
  • To work with the MDT to ensure young people receive quality care and intervention.
  • Share ideas with colleagues to improve care and suggest areas for innovation.
  • Adhere to legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines both local and national regularly attend workplace and staff engagement meetings, contribute positively to discussions about the improvement of care.

You will support with the delivery of the program by attending groups and supporting with the facilitation of these, supporting meal times, provide Psychoeducational support, conduct physical health checks/ reviews and assess the mental health of the person already open to the team. You will escalate any concerns to the senior team on duty.

  • Care Certificate completed or willingness to complete

Be able to:

Good IT skills:

  • Experience within an Eating Disorders team / service is preferred but not essential
  • Ability to travel is desirable but not essential
