Job summary
An exciting opportunity has risen within the low secure unit, Sussex Partnership NHS foundation Trust at the Hellingly Centre. We are looking for a dynamic, highly motivated, and inspiring Band 6 Charge Nurse / Deputy Ward Manager to join our team, Elm Ward. Someone who has a passion for exceptionally high standards of patient care, who is enthusiastic, innovative and wants to work in a service that is committed to providing individualized evidenced based care.
As a Charge Nurse / Deputy Ward Manager, you will work alongside a Clinical Nurse Specialists and other Healthcare professionals within our team providing high quality care for all of our patients. The successful candidate will be required to deputise for the ward manager, oversee the day to day running of the wards and be responsible for providing high quality clinical leadership to the in-patient multi-disciplinary team through supervision and direction.
This post offers an incentive or relocation package up to the maximum of £4000 (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions).
Main duties of the job
Elm ward is a 15 bedded ward that caters for male adults and is part of the forensic pathway. The pathway includes two medium secure male wards, one female medium secure ward and a low secure male ward. We support our service users on their individual pathways through a multi-disciplinary approach. We are a motivated and responsive team managing an ever-changing environment. The multidisciplinary team focus on providing compassionate care and a safe and therapeutic environment. Team-working and collaboration is key to the smooth running of the ward. As a Deputy Ward Manager, your responsibilities willbe;
- Uphold the values of the ward promoting openness, transparency, and learning
- Supervision of junior staff
- Enthusiastic mentor to new staff, newly qualified nurses, and junior staff
- Oversee certain areas of clinical expertise such as medication management and physical health provision on the ward
- Support the Ward Manager with HR tasks such as return to works and sickness monitoring
- Accurate and timely clinical documentation
- Manage shifts as a nurse in charge
- Work a mixture of shifts including Long Days (07:00 - 19:30) and Nights (19:00 - 07:30)
- Conducting thorough assessments of risks and risk management plans to support incidents on the ward

The appointee will be required to work rotational shifts including weekends and bank holidays as necessary, with a flexible manner to ensure a seamless whole service approach.
