An opportunity has arisen for two Occupational Therapy support workers to join our High Dependency Recovery and Rehabilitation Service. The roles are part time and flexible hours are considered

78 Crawley Road is a modern, state of the art rehabilitation hospital that comprises an 8-bed intensive rehabilitation unit and 16 individual bungalows designed around a central landscaped courtyard.

You will be part of an expanding Occupational Therapist service that is supporting people with complex needs and their families to realise new goals and rewarding opportunities through a comprehensive recovery programme

To provide support to our service user group in overcoming mental health challenges in their journey to recovery and wellbeing by 'engaging in meaningful/purposeful occupations, including those revolving around self-care, productivity and leisure'

Main duties of the job

Designs, plans and delivers a range of prescribed therapeutic programmes to Individuals or groups of patients/clients within an overall care package. Assesses, evaluates and reports on patient/client responses to prescribed therapeutic Programmes from an Occupational Therapist. Maintains a specific caseload of patients/clients in community or in-patient settings

Job responsibilities

Perform straightforward, routine and specific delegated care tasks, for which they have received training, working within procedures, policies and plans. Able to adapt practice to situations.

Under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist, facilitate and participate in planned group work, individual activities and ongoing continuous assessment with supervision.

Under supervision of an Occupational Therapist, provide a range of activities, instructing and guiding clients with more complex needs to support them in achieving identified occupational therapy goals, with some supervision.

To carry out community/home visits as directed by an Occupational Therapist and report on the outcome.

To contribute to the generic tasks of the team as directed by a registered occupational therapist.

To actively promote service user driven O.T interventions within a recovery approach.

Can prioritise activities to meet the holistic needs of service users, including adjusting normal routines where levels of complexity exist.

Provides feedback on service user progress and condition, recognises the impact of support and interventions, and suggests ideas for improvement when developing, reviewing and evaluating care plans based on objective evidence and experience

To monitor the client progress, taking account of their environment and adjust clinical interventions accordingly with supervision from an Occupational Therapist.

  • A recognised qualification in an area related to the workplace or equivalent technical/life skills
  • Evidence of a commitment to lifelong learning
  • Health care or relevant NVQ level 3 or equivalent skills

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs in a paid or voluntary capacity
  • Experience of working with people with mental health difficulties
  • Experience of being supervised
