Job summary

We are looking for two Band 5 Occupational Therapists within the Eastbourne Assessment and Treatment Service (ATS), a community based mental health service for adults with complex mental health needs across the Eastbourne, Seaford & Hailsham area.

Eastbourne ATS is piloting a new way of working and your focus will be to implement evidence based Occupational Therapy assessment tools and interventions to support patient flow. You will be working in a busy multidisciplinary service alongside our existing Band 6 Occupational Therapist, whilst receiving support and guidance from the Band 7 Occupational Therapist and the Professional Lead Occupational Therapist for East Sussex Community Services. You will manage your own caseload whilst providing Occupational Therapy assessments, and interventions, which you will grade and adapt to meet individual needs. In addition, you will have the opportunity to deliver interventions through a psycho-educational approach with the view of supporting service users to understand, and manage their mental health diagnosis.

This is a full-time post on a permanent contract. We encourage staff who are also looking for a job share/ flexible working or part time post to apply. This post would suit experienced staff looking to extend their experience of working in the community in a mental health setting, as well as newly qualified OT's.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant must have an enthusiasm and passion for mental health. You will work closely with the MDT, be involved in the supporting the Triage team, completing team assessments, carrying a caseload and assisting with duty. Newly qualified OT's will receive support via the Preceptorship Programme in line with the Trust policy:

1. To plan and provide a range of occupational assessments and interventions that will promote recovery and wellbeing for the people you support. This will include home assessments and group work, with regular support and supervision.

2. To manage a caseload of clients, using evidence based/ client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions.assessments and group work with regular support and supervision.

3. To support the promotion of Occupational Therapy within the clinical area.

The post is based at St Mary's House in Eastbourne, there are aspects of the role which involve being able to travel across the area so the successful applicant must be able to travel independently. In line with current COVID restrictions we are supporting a combination of remote working and on site working, which we envisage will continue in to the future.
