Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen within Aldershot CAMHS for an experienced Senior Assistant Psychologist. This post is full time. We are looking to recruit someone who is highly motivated and with a passion for working creatively and collaboratively with children, young people and their families with severe and complex mental health problems.

Main duties of the job

Excellent team working will be an essential component to the post. The role will include overseeing our team neurodevelopmental assessment service which will involve supporting with specialist assessments for neurodevelopmental conditions and management of the assessment waitlist. In addition, the role will provide opportunities for delivering relevant treatments and interventions (one-to-one and group work); liaising where appropriate with families, carers and the professional network. Candidates should be able to demonstrate a good level of initiative, autonomy and an ability to work with a range of different presenting needs. The post holder will be required to supervise psychology placement students and take on identified responsibilities suitable for the banding.

  • Honours degree at 2:1 or above in Psychology, or equivalent. Eligible for Graduate Basis for Chartership with the BPS
  • Experience of working with people with disabilities, in a health or Mental Health setting and or work with people with complex needs
  • Experience of working as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • To be able to provide and receive complex sensitive or contentious information in a potentially highly emotive atmosphere. To be able to work with resistance to ideas.
  • Ability to tolerate and remain calm in the face of high levels of emotional distress and emotional demands
  • Capable of using initiative and organise work to agreed goals. Ability to work independently and know when to ask for and use supervision, identifying when there is need for advice and using supervision at agreed intervals
