Job summary

The Director of Workforce is a pivotal member of the senior People team and plays a key role in leading the delivery of the Trust's Strategy and the People and Culture Plan.

The Director of Workforce will act as a role model in terms of Trust values and behaviours and support the Chief People Officer in their responsibilities covering all aspects of leadership and people management across the Trust. The post holder will support the Chief People Officer in providing a comprehensive workforce service to the Trust, providing leadership for the People and Culture Plan, business plan, Care Quality Commission standards and other workforce related governance and compliance requirements. The post holder will also lead initiatives to develop high levels of workforce engagement and performance to support delivery of the Trust's strategic and performance goals and its improvement priorities.

The Director of Workforce will support the Chief People Officer in delivering an effective and professional HR service to managers and staff employed across the Trust.

Working with senior colleagues, the post holder will be responsible for setting and maintaining high standards for service delivery and building capability within the Directorate across the Trust, in areas of recruitment, workforce planning, organisational development, rostering, medical staffing, employee relations, HR case management, Workforce policies, terms and conditions and workforce information.

Main duties of the job

The Director of Workforce has a wide-ranging and extensive portfolio including policy and major change programmes. With the Chief People Officer, the post holder will ensure that the people directorate's structure and functions - and the capacity and capability of people that work in the directorate - are fit for purpose and designed to support business needs, whilst maintaining the highest professional standards. Education/ Qualifications

Essential

  • Educated to degree level and holds a Masters degree or equivalent
  • Member of Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development (MCIPD) or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of leadership development and proven ability to perform at this level
  • Evidence of continuing professional development

Knowledge/ Experience

Essential

  • Significant HR generalist experience at a senior level in a large complex organisation
  • Extensive experience working at senior management level in a health or social care organisation
  • Record of innovation in workforce practices.
  • Record of achieving effective change management
  • Record of building positive relationships with Trade Unions
  • Record of achievement in promoting equality in the workplace
  • Demonstrable experience of managing staff and employee relations
  • Experience of leading a workforce resourcing function within a complex organisation, including recruitment, retention and the introduction of new roles
  • Considerable experience of developing and applying HR strategies, employment law and policies
  • Good knowledge of Workforce information and the development of metrics to ensure ownership and good understanding of workforce across a complex organisation
