Job summary

The West Sussex Wellbeing Service is recruiting to a Band 6 Nursing / OT / Social Work role in its new Primary Care Network (PCN) mental health teams in Burgess Hill and Hayward Heath. The EWS aims to provide GPs with fast access to mental health expertise at the right level, preventing further escalation in need.

The people we work with are usually unable to access IAPT services, but may not meet the threshold for secondary care. We have excellent links to other teams locally to ensure service users move seamless if we aren't best placed to help them. This includes third sector agencies, but also ATS, IAPT, and other SPFT teams.

EWSroles are embedded right in the GP Primary Care Networks (small groups of local GP surgeries in Hayward Heath and Burgess Hill) but benefit from being part of the SPFT family, with excellent training and supervision as standard. This exciting and evolving service integrates closely with voluntary sector partners (Brighton Housing Trust) to provide accessible, high quality clinical consultation, assessment, and one-to-one intervention right on the GP's doorstep.

Main duties of the job

The West Sussex EWS is a developing service presently focussing on flexible, short term one-to-one work. This exciting team offers opportunity and challenge in equal measure to experienced practitioners wanting to be at the forefront of the transformation of West Sussex community mental health services.

Working in the West Sussex EWS, you will encounter people experiencing a range of mental health needs, and as a Band 6 practitioner you will be sufficiently skilled and experienced to triage, assess, and work with them over 6-8 sessions to find the right pathway to support. You will communicate closely with service users, GPs, secondary care services (ATS, crisis teams, etc), carers, and voluntary sector networks to make sure people's needs are understood at the earliest point, providing a bridge between primary and secondary care when necessary.

Your interventions will be vital to preventing deterioration in previously stable patients, supporting people to transition to the right services, and supporting GPs and voluntary sector colleagues to provide safe, evidence-based mental health support. The team supports blended working options within the needs of the service, and of service users.

Please speak to us about flexible working, for example: home-working, part time hours, flexible start or finish times, or anything else. If it works for you and works for the role, we'll do our best to make it happen.

Your benefits:

  • Access to full psychological support via our internal wellbeing team
  • Excellent supervision programmes, with ongoing opportunities for training and development
  • Access to a host of discount schemes, and excellent NHS pension
  • Generous holiday entitlement (starting at 27 days plus bank holidays, increasing with continuous NHS service)

This post offers a Golden Hello, or a Relocation package up to a maximum of £2000. (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions. Please see attached Protocol document).
