Job summary

This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified or newly qualified Registered Mental Health Nurse to join a forward-thinking patient centred service that is dedicated to staff development to provide the highest quality of care.

The Chichester Centre is a modern unit providing low secure services for men and women. The service is configured around two male wards and one female ward.

The successful applicant will be based on a 17 bedded male Low Secure Treatment and Recovery Ward, however, there will be opportunities to work across the unit which includes the Low Secure Service for females. The Treatment and Recovery Service focuses on re-integrating patients back into the community. As a nurse, you will work in collaboration with other professionals within the MDT and external agencies in a patient centred way. We work to the principles of the "Secure Recovery Model" and the "See Think Act" (Royal College of Psychiatrists publication) in collaboration with the peer support programme.

Main duties of the job

  • To deliver a high standard of evidence based inpatient nursing care in the designated care group in partnership with the team, the service users and, where appropriate, their family.
  • To act as a primary nurse in the assessment of needs and organising of care.
  • To co-ordinate shifts and provide supervision for support workers and students.
  • To work within a team of nurses and other professionals who are committed to the delivery of a quality service.
  • To adopt a flexible approach to hours of duty, in order to meet the needs of the service over a 24-hour period.
  • To take charge of a designated clinical area and deputise as appropriate.
  • To represent the Ward Manager and/or care team, at appropriate forums and disseminate information as required.
  • To represent the clinical team perspective at multidisciplinary meetings and clinical reviews of patient care.
  • To be an active participant in the multi-disciplinary team, formulating care plans and utilising appropriate assessments.
