Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen in the North West Sussex Community CAMHS team for an occupational therapist to join an established multidisciplinary team providing assessment and treatment to children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties.

Main duties of the job

To work as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide assessment and treatment for children experiencing mental health difficulties.

The role involves working both independently and as part of a team or network to support children and families working towards the recovery of a child in mental health distress.

The role offers an opportunity to use OT models and skills in the treatment of children working towards recovery.

The role requires the development of comprehensive risk assessments and safety plans.

Consultation to professional networks is an integral part of the role.

Job responsibilities

The role involves providing assessment of children and young people experiencing mental health difficulties that are moderate to severe and which have a significant impact on their daily lives.

The role further involves using evidence based treatment models to assist in the recovery of children with mental health difficulties.

The post holder will be required to take on the role of care coordinator for children who have large and complex networks of professionals involved in their lives.

The role requires the post holder to make comprehensive risk assessments and safety plans and to work with partner agencies to ensure the risks to children associated with their mental health are safely managed and ameliorated.

You will be required to work within the framework of children and mental health legislation, local policies, procedures and guidance. Therefore a good working knowledge of these is essential.

The post holder will need to ensure they work to their own codes of professional ethics and practice and to keep their skills updated as required.

  • Degree/Diploma in occupational therapy
  • Evidence of post graduate level study/training
  • Registration with the HPC as an occupational therapist
  • Training in the use of standardised occupational therapy assessment tools

Knowledge/Experience

  • Experience as a qualified occupational therapist in mental health
  • Broad experience of working with clients with a range of mental health problems
  • Experience of both group and individual work
