Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for Band 2 Support Workers to work at the Woodlands Centre for Acute Care, part of the Sussex Partnership and based in St Leonards-on-Sea, East Sussex.

Our wards are looking for a compassionate and person- centred experienced Healthcare support worker with an ability to work in a flexible manner to meet the demands and needs of the service.

The successful applicant would be expected to work as part of the team undertaking the assessment, care and treatment of patients experiencing an acute mental health crisis, working in a recovery-orientated manner towards the ultimate discharge of the patient.

There will be opportunities to work over a 24/7 rota which includes weekend and bank holidays.

Day: 07:00 - 19:30, 07:00 - 21:00
Night: 19:00 - 07:30, 20:30 - 07:30

Main duties of the job

We are a busy 23-bed Acute unit split into male and female wards, which sits alongside a brand new health-based place of safety ('136 suite') which opened in 2022. We are looking for support workers to work in both the new place of safety and on the ward.

Work with the multi-disciplinary team to establish and deliver a therapeutic programme of care for our patients.
Undertake care duties for patients on the ward.
Report patients condition to qualified staff
Document care delivery in patients notes.
Implement individual patient care plans
Participate in meetings, training and other work related forums.

Woodlands has undergone recent structural changes in order to provide a safe environment for both patients and staff. Current feedback from patients tells us that the provision is a great improvement and allows staff to be out in the ward environment with the patients and have the time to nurse, which has a major positive impact on patient recovery time. Patient C's comments stated that 'this is the best inpatient stay I have had and now I am ready to go home feeling heard and valued'.

Our patients are keen for new support workers joining the team to demonstrate empathy, time to talk and listen. We are very proud of our standards and are looking for someone who is ready to learn and keen to develop. Development within this role is available as each support worker is encouraged to champion and take an interest in something on the ward which best fits their skills. Associate nurse training is also available as well as NVQ and the mandatory care certificate. Support will be provided for these.
