Job summary

These are new roles within Hampshire CAMHS and are an exciting development opportunity for a Band 5 preceptorship nurse to gain experience working across three community acute settings. The teams are: The Community Eating Disorder Team (EDT), the Paediatric Psychiatric Liaison team (PPLT) and the I2I (CAMHS crises and home treatment) team.

The post holder will have 3 placements each lasting a period of 6 months where they will be expected to embed themselves within the team in that area, develop specialist skills, and complete competencies in each speciality. At the end of the final placement or on completion of the competency framework the post holder will then achieve a Band 6 role and will be guaranteed a post in one of the three teams.

You will develop skills to offer intensive support and risk management to young people in the community at times of crisis.

This post offers a Golden Hello, or a Relocation package up to a maximum of £2000. (pro rata applies and subject to terms and conditions. Please see attached Protocol document).

Main duties of the job

Paediatric Psychiatric Liaison Team

This team is based at RHCH Winchester and NHH Basingstoke.

The PPLT aims are reducing the number of presentations and admissions to acute hospitals and to reduce length of stay

The post holder will

  • develop skills in undertaking specialist mental health assessments to young people who present in crisis during the hours of the service at A&E
  • develop care and safety plans, including risk assessment and management, and facilitating safe discharge covering the mental health needs of the young person in the discharge plan.

i2i, Urgent Assessment and Home Treatment Team

I2i is a county wide urgent assessment and home treatment service within Hampshire CAMHS, working with young people and families at times of crisis.

Key aspects of this service provision include:

  • Home treatment for 2-10 weeks for young people under the care of Community CAMHS
  • Crisis care DBT programme
  • Immediate crisis assessments and risk management reviews in clinics or home settings

The Community Eating Disorder Team

The Eating Disorder Team is a Multi-Disciplinary county wide team working across three hubs based in Basingstoke, Fareham and Ashurst.

Key aspects of this service provision are:

  • Triage of referrals including contact with families
  • Assessment
  • Treatment clinics where physical observations are taken and young people are supported with menu planning
  • Family Based treatment
  • Body Image Groups

  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and varied role

Flexibility with working patterns to include some weekend and evening work is essential as is own transport as the role involves travel across the whole Hampshire County area. SPFT staff have the capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with your line manager.

MAIN DUTIES Clinical and Professional

  • Under supervision of senior colleagues develop the skills to manage referrals and to assess the needs of the referred child or young person and to develop, implement and evaluate appropriate interventions.
  • To contribute a specialist child and adolescent psychiatric perspective in team and management discussions.
  • To attend Core Group meetings and Team Around the Child meetings and other relevant meetings as required.
  • To work or sit in constraint positions for substantial periods of time during interviewing and therapy sessions.
  • To ensure children, young people and their carers/significant others are included in planning, implementation and evaluation of care.
  • To ensure care is delivered in a person-centred manner ensuring the gender, ethnic cultural and spiritual needs of service users inform practice.
  • To operate within the guidance and Code of Ethics of the NMC.
  • To act in accordance with legal requirements contained within the Mental Health Act 1983, the Childrens Act 1994 and other legislation.
