An exciting opportunity has arisen for a full-time Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner or Graduate Mental Health Practitioner in our adult community mental health service in Uckfield, East Sussex.

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust has been at the forefront in establishing these roles successfully into secondary mental health care.

This post is based at Millwood Assessment and Treatment Service in Uckfield which is a rural town in the heart of the Sussex Countryside within easy reach of the Ashdown Forest and with good links to London and Royal Tunbridge Wells.

The successful applicant will join a friendly, highly skilled, and enthusiastic multi-disciplinary team which provides care for adults with severe or complex mental illness in the local community. The team comprises consultant psychiatrists, community mental health nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, support and peer workers.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will have a degree, and either a Mental Health Wellbeing Practitioner Postgraduate Certificate or a Post Graduate Certificate in Mental Health Practice. They will have completed placements during their training and been assessed against competencies in the assessment of mental health needs, and risk assessment. The successful applicant will be offered regular supervision and additional training relevant to the role. After a preceptorship period of 6 months, with additional training and support the post-holder will be able to be a Lead Practitioner and carry a caseload.

Mental health and wellbeing practitioners provide evidence based wellbeing-focused, psychological interventions and coordinate care plans for adults with severe mental health problems to help them recover and live fulfilling lives.

The role will also include co-running CBT informed groups and psycho educational workshops; delivering psychologically informed interventions; supporting people to access care from other services including housing providers & third sector organisations; contributing to multidisciplinary discussions; supporting the team with duty work and facilitating access to full pathways of care.

  • Registered as a Mental Health and Wellbeing Practitioner on a professional register recognised for this role by NHS England

Experience/Knowledge

  • Experience of working with people with mental health needs gained through a graduate certificate or postgraduate certificate training with significant supervised practice
