Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Clinical Psychologist to join our Sussex CAMHS Services as Professional Lead. This is a highly influential role that will be responsible for providing professional leadership within East Sussex CAMHS with some time dedicated to supporting with leadership more widely across Sussex CAMHS.

The Trust operates a Care Delivery Service (CDS) model which is led through joint operational and clinical decision making. This post will join other professional leads in ensuring quality of service delivery and support and growth of our workforce.

This role is right for you if you are motivated at the prospect of:

  • Having the ability to influence the quality of care and wellbeing through a strong professional lead network.
  • Raising the profile of Psychological Therapists within CAMHS and supporting their growth and development.
  • Wanting to ensure that the child's voice is at the centre of care delivery decisions.

The role is split into 50% clinical direct and indirect work (base to be agreed) and 50% leadership work.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for the professional leadership of Psychological Professions within East Sussex CAMHS. You will be supported by a Professional Lead for Psychological Professions as well as Senior Psychological colleagues within the CAMHS service. There are several Networks within the Trust which support the work of the Psychology Professions. The role involves overseeing aspects of the wider Psychology Professions workplan which includes increasing access to psychological therapies, supporting inclusive and diverse practice, staff well-being and professional and clinical leadership. We are particularly keen to develop our workforce through the Training opportunities that are offered. This includes the development of trainee posts, i.e Recruit to Train and other initiatives.

To be responsible, in collaboration with the General/Service Manager, for the provision, and development of psychological services for Specified care group/service in specified locality, ensuring the delivery of high-quality psychological services. To hold a specialist case load.

You will lead within the service on promoting clinical innovation and delivering continual development of Psychological practice based upon evidence and relevant research. You will have experience in working with young people presenting with trauma and have received further training in Trauma interventions. You will also be required to ensure excellence in clinical practice and that service delivery is based on NICE guidelines and other relevant documents and guidance.

There will also be a requirement to ensure all Psychological Professionals have mechanisms that enable them to comply with the Professional standards, ethics and regulation requirements.

You will support and advise managers in developing supervision for Psychological Professionals within East Sussex, and to act as a point of contact and resource on all professionally related issues.

You will be expected to work clinically to provide and deliver specialist advice and interventions for a caseload of young people with complex needs, and their families and to work closely with the Locality Manager and General Managers in order to deliver a person centred service, and provide expert advice to patients, carers and staff.

You will be supported by regular supervision from our 8D CAMHS Lead for Psychology Professions.

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained before 1996 or outside the UK] as approved by the HCPC, including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology,
  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in a recognised psychological therapy [or equivalent postgraduate level qualification with further experience and/or training], leading to recognised professional accreditation in Systemic Family Therapy (AFT), Child Psychotherapy (ACP or UKCP), Art Therapy (HCPC), Play Therapy (BAPT), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (BABCP), or Psychotherapeutic Counselling (BACP or UKCP).
  • Pre-qualification training and qualifications in research methodology, staff training and/or other fields of applied psychology.
