Job summary

The post holder will have the opportunity to work with people with a wide range of complex mental health problems, their families and carers.

Your role will involve psychological assessment, formulation and intervention with service users. You will be working within a Multidisciplinary team (MDT) We value a strong commitment to recovery, multi-disciplinary working, co-production with service users and carers, and equality. We are committed to the delivery of evidence-based interventions. You will have access to a range of training opportunities such as DBT, Family Interventions and EMDR (eye-movement desensitisation and reprocessing). You will have the opportunity and protected space to join a clinical and academic group (CAG) of your interest, such as the psychosis or complex emotional difficulties CAG. Alongside these research links we have close links with Surrey University and their Clinical Psychology Doctorate. You will be well-supported within the role, with regular professional and clinical supervision. You will be working closely with your professional lead in acute services and closely linked with a warm and diverse community of local practitioner psychologists.

Main duties of the job

As a Practitioner Psychologist working within CRHTT your main role will be assessment, formulation and psychological intervention with a diverse range of service users. You will provide both individual and group evidence-based interventions.

You will use your formulation skills to support the teams understanding of service users. Working closely with the MDT to ensure a person centred, trauma informed approach to service user care. You will have formal and informal opportunities to support the staff team in providing psychologically informed interventions.

As a member of our Psychological Therapies team in West Sussex, you will be required to offer supervision to assistant psychologists within the service. You will have regular supervision with an experienced senior Psychologist and attend reflective practice within the CRHTT and regular peer supervision across the wider West Sussex Acute Psychologist and Psychological Practitioner Team.

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK], including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as approved by the HCPC
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HCPC)

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological working (assessment, formulation and treatment) with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of applied psychology
  • High level of knowledge and skills in neuropsychology and evidence of further practice and/or training since qualification
  • Experience of the application of applied psychology in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework.
