Job summary

SEDS is a passionate multidisciplinary team delivering NICE recommended treatments and aiming to provide the best possible care to adults living with eating disorders. We are going through an exciting programme of expansion. We are delighted to have secured additional funding for a FREED champion role. FREED (First Episode Rapid Early Intervention for Eating Disorders) is a national initiative, promoting early intervention for young people with a recent onset of their eating disorder.

The FREED champion role is a rare opportunity for a practitioner to have a true mix of service development, research and clinical work protected in their job plan.

Previous experience of working in an eating disorder service is desirable but not necessary, as we offer considerable in-house and external training opportunities (including CBT-T, CBT-E and MANTRA). The post will be supervised by a senior psychologist within the team. There will be extensive opportunities for developing supervisory experience, being involved in research/service development and nurturing special interests.

Covering the whole of Sussex, SEDS provides specialist eating disorder services across a large geographical area, including Coastal West Sussex, North West Sussex, Brighton and East Sussex. With the introduction of remote working, there is scope, where possible, to tailor your working pattern/location to the needs of both the service and you.

Main duties of the job

Key responsibilities:

  • The post holder will provide specialist assessment and psychological therapy (including delivering evidenced based treatment in group format) to young adults (18-25 years old) with a recent onset eating disorders in an outpatient setting.
  • There will be opportunity to supervise assistant psychologists providing 'fast-tracked' experience to develop into a senior psychologist/psychological therapist role.
  • The FREED champion role involves managing all young adult referrals (18-25 years) to our service, including tracking assessment/treatment booking and outcomes, for which you will need to demonstrate excellent organisational skills.
  • The role requires leadership skills, such as chairing meetings and allocating clinical caseloads. Furthermore, the champion will endeavour to maintain enthusiasm for FREED within the team and beyond (e.g., building links with child and adolescent services, universities and other eating disorder services), through training and regular updates/liaison.
  • Research is encouraged; you will be part of a team that values delivering evidence-base treatment and supports evidence-generating practice. In collaboration with the University of Sussex, we have launched an innovative eating disorder research clinic (SPIRED). This clinic aims to improve the treatment and support available to people with eating disorders; bringing together the expertise and experience of clinicians and people with lived experience of eating disorders.
