Job summary

Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust provides mental health and learning disability care for children, young people and adults across Sussex and for children and young people in Hampshire.

The Brighton and Hove Wellbeing service offers primary care support and psychological therapies to the community of Brighton and Hove. Our interventions are diverse and evidence based, ranging from guided self-help and face-to-face or telephone support to workshop courses.

This is an exciting new role for a Senior Psychological Therapist within the IAPT part of our service and an opportunity to lead on developing and delivering our Long-Term Conditions (LTC) pathway.

You will join a supportive and friendly leadership team and will work closely with our IAPT Clinical Lead, IAPT Service Manager and other Senior Psychological Therapists within IAPT. You will also work with Service Managers and other Clinical Leads within the wider service. The wider multi-disciplinary team includes Admin and Data Management staff, a Service Improvement team, Primary Care Mental Health Practitioners, Psychological Wellbeing Practitioners, CBT Therapists, and Counsellors.

Main duties of the job

The role will include the following:

  • To be accountable for the seamless referral pathways within IAPT for long term health conditions - LTCs (such as Respiratory, Diabetes, MSK/Pain, MUS, Cardiac and Long Covid).
  • To develop strong relationships with healthcare colleagues and providers across Brighton and Hove.
  • To develop appropriate clinical pathways for patients presenting with comorbid anxiety/depression and LTCs. This may include co-facilitation and creation of CBT based groups.
  • Ensure all LTC patients are in receipt of NICE approved treatment , correct pathway and disorder specific measures are utilised and good patient outcomes and recovery rates achieved.
  • Lead on the provision of educational training programmes to both patients and staff either on an individual or group basis within scope of knowledge around managing long term conditions, ensuring teaching programmes are in place for all staff to maintain their competency and ensure best practice.

The post is full-time, and there will be a requirement to work across different sites used by the service throughout Brighton and Hove. The service operates between 8am and 8pm Monday to Friday and some flexibility within these working hours is required.

You will provide clinical leadership. You will need to work effectively as a clinical lead within a primary care multidisciplinary setting. You will need to hold self and colleagues to account toensure the IAPT service delivers safe, effective and timely clinical care in line with the IAPT manual, while also meeting its agreed performance targets.

Essential Criteria includes:

  • Doctoral level qualification in Clinical or Counselling Psychology, or equivalent or extensive experience of delivering psychological therapies to an equivalent level.
  • Post Graduate Training in CBT to diploma, masters or doctorate level.
  • BABCP accredited or eligible for accreditation by BABCP within a one-year period
  • Experience of providing care in line with the Long-term condition agenda
  • Extensive experience of undertaking psychological therapy with patients with common mental health disorders
  • Evidence of knowledge in current professional issues, health promotion, clinical governance, national initiatives (e.g. NICE guidelines) and Long-Term Conditions.
  • Ability to provide specialist information to aid service development and policy decisions.
  • Ability to offer consultation and supervision to trainees and colleagues and non-professional groups.
