Job summary

We are transforming our community rehabilitation pathway for people experiencing psychosis in West Sussex. To support this work we are recruiting to a new Practitioner Psychologist post based in our Western locality (Bognor and Chichester).

This opportunity comes at an exciting time with real investment in posts, training and new models of working. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to train in some or all of the psychological treatment modalities on the pathway (family interventions in psychosis; CBT for psychosis - e.g 'Feeling Safe' (Freeman et al). This post comes with a preceptorship personal development plan enabling us to support a successful applicant currently working at Band 7 level to develop in to an 8a role through a structured, time-limited preceptorship plan. We expect the transition to take approximately 18 months but there is provision in the preceptorship plan for this to take up to 3 years (Please see attached document for details). We feel excited about this opportunity to increase access to evidenced-based interventions for this group of service users.

We are looking for individuals with excellent clinical skills, an aptitude for engaging with colleagues and service users in a positive way, and experience of working with people with these difficulties. You will be able to think creatively with partnership organisations , modelling our strong commitment to recovery, trauma-informed approaches, co-production, and equality.

Main duties of the job

As a Practitioner Psychologist working in our community rehabilitation pathway, you will work closely with other trained psychological therapists and multi-disciplinary colleagues. In each local area the psychological provision is led by a an experienced Consultant Clinical Psychologist. You will be required to offer assessments, formulations, and evidence-based interventions for people with psychosis and rehabilitation needs. As the posts sit within community services, there will be opportunities to build close working relationships with our local community of psychologists and psychological therapists working into other teams.   • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK], including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as approved by the HCPC.
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HCPC)

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological working (assessment, formulation and treatment) with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of applied psychology
  • High level of knowledge and skills in neuropsychology and evidence of further practice and/or training since qualification
  • Experience of the application of applied psychology in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework
