Job summary
This is a one year fixed term training post for Social Workers, Occupational Therapists and Registered Mental Health Nurses with post registration experience to work as a Senior Mental Health Practitioner in our established Community Services for Children and Young People with Mental Health Problems. This post provides the opportunity to complete the Children and Young People Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (CYP-IAPT) training in Interpersonal Psychotherapy that is being run in collaboration and undertaking training at UCL Anna Freud Centre. This is an excellent training provided by Leading Practitioners in this field.The successful candidates would be working as Senior Mental Health Practitioners within one of the CAMHS community teams for the duration of the one year course and would split their time between training and carrying out clinical work. After successful completion of the course the fixed term training contract will end however applicants would be encouraged to apply for any vacant posts within the service.
Main duties of the job
IPT-A is a 12-16 session evidence based therapy for CYPs with a primary presentation of depression, it is indicated when depression is linked with interpersonal difficulties in social systems/relationships. It is a particularly effective therapy where there is discord between the young person and a close relative, where there has been a significant life change/or transition, where there has been a bereavement or loss of significant other, and where there has been significant bullying and/or history of social relationship difficulties. IPT-A Practitioners will be trained to respond to and work with suicidal ideation and deliberate self-harm.
The training involves teaching blocks as well as weekly teaching and supervision days at UCL. Applicants must be willing to travel.
The clinical work involves being part of a multi-disciplinary CAMHS team and successful candidates will carry their own caseload of IPT-A training cases. Workplace supervision will be provided weekly.
