Job summary

Matron, Acute mental health services at Mill View hospital .

With a very heavy heart, I am seeking to recruit into our hospital leadership team, a matron post at Mill View Hospital. The reason for this is because our hospital matron of 4 years is moving on to progress his career. This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced nurse to join our senior acute leadership team at Mill View Hospital, Brighton and Hove.

Below are our current matron's reflections of working within this role.

"I have worked in a number of hospitals in my career but what separates Mill View from others is how caring and kind the teams are to patients but also to each other, as colleagues- there is a real sense of community and a willingness to support each other. The teams put thought in to all they do for those we care for and I'll be one of the first to hear of their concerns if there is something impacting on patients in any way, which is reflective of our culture of openness and transparency we have at Mill View Hospital. I feel privileged to be working within a hospital which demonstrates and role models what it means to care and I have witnessed each team continue to grow and develop over the last few years, despite the many challenges, which they have faced with strength and resilience".

Main duties of the job

We are looking for an experienced mental health nurse leader who is caring, compassionate and committed to lead on providing excellent care for adults and their families. In this role you would be responsible for managing, developing and supporting our acute care provision. This is a varied, dynamic role that would suit a forward thinking, energetic, creative practitioner with a passion for strong clinical leadership and governance combined with effective operational management.

To be successful in this role you will need to be an excellent communicator, a credible and motivational role model for nurses and keen to work in a challenging and rewarding environment. Acute services are fast paced and the matron role will frequently be confronted with competing challenges and demands. You will need to have a 'can do' attitude and be solution focused. You will need to be extremely well organised, hardworking, and to be able to confidently demonstrate your ability to manage crisis situations and to work effectively in a team.

About us

Mill View Hospital consists of 5 busy mental health wards (81 beds) and a health based place of safety service for 1.

If successful, you would be joining an experienced team and working alongside another fulltime mental health matron.

The Trust aims to support staff in the delivery of high quality services as well as promoting research, innovation and co-production. There is strong clinical leadership with representation from nursing at all levels within the governance and leadership structure. As a university teaching Trust, we encourage and support research working with Brighton & Sussex Medical School and there are opportunities to get involved in research, teaching and management or leadership.
