Job summary

Do you have a passion for supporting people with learning disabilities to maximise their full potential?

Are you interested in a nursing leadership role, with a variety of both hands-on nursing and management responsibilities?

We are seeking a Band 7 Learning Disability Nurse to join our Integrated Community Learning Disability Team in Brighton. As a Lead Learning Disability Nurse in our team you will be a key member of our multi-professional health team, working in close partnership with Social Services colleagues to support people who have a learning disability, but who also have complex physical and mental health needs including behaviours that challenge.

Our community learning disability team works across Brighton to provide specialist community support for adults with a learning disability, their families and carers. Our teams include specialist nurses, occupational therapists, psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, physios, speech and language therapists and more.

We have introduced the Hard to Recruit and Retain Premium to this post. This supplement will follow the principles of Agenda for Change and will be based on the Fringe Allowance, which is 5% of salary or a minimum of £1066 and a maximum of £1,845.

Main duties of the job

In this role you will be providing specialist assessments, support and advice to people with learning disabilities and their carers'. You will provide and/or arrange access to specialist focused health interventions and monitoring as identified in health care and treatment plans, for example; related to complex physical health, epilepsy, challenging behaviour and mental health.

You will manage your own diary and own case load, working across our patch to support our service users in the most efficient and effective way possible. An ability to be able to travel around Brighton and sometimes wider areas is essential, as you will need to undertake home visits and attend meetings.

As a Lead Community LD Nurse in our team you will have the opportunity to keep your nursing skills up to date, taking on your own caseload and some of the more complex cases, while providing clinical leadership and management to nursing colleagues in the team.
