Job summary

We are seeking to recruit a passionate, experienced, knowledgeable Practitioner Psychologist to join our well-established and innovative Multi-agency and Integrated Service between East Sussex Children Services and Sussex Partnership Foundation trust. As a Practitioner Psychologist, your goal is to offer psychological assessments and bespoke interventions to parents who's children are open to child protection and care proceedings .

You will be joining a friendly, supportive and creative psychology team within a multi-agency team, dedicated to providing a high-quality service which complements the work done by Children Services in liaison/partnership with other key agencies. Our core business includes assessing parents mental health, including attention to risk management care planning, working with families and the wider systems that support them.

Main duties of the job

SWIFT Specialist Family Service is an innovative and exciting service provided by East Sussex County Council Children's Services and Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust in partnership. The service provides assessments and interventions to families within East Sussex child protection, safeguarding and care proceedings where the parent / parents' own difficulties: substance misuse, mental health, sexual risk, learning difficulties, domestic violence are impacting on their ability to parent. This post is part of a further service development offering assessments and interventions to adults who presents with complex needs including learning needs, neurodevelopmental needs and form of trauma often related to their own experiences as children and adults. This post is integrated into the SWIFT Adult Psychology Team contributing to the current Mental Health service offered to high risk families by SWIFT.The service is led by the local authority with a multi-disciplinary management team and consist of practitioners from a variety of backgrounds, including social workers, psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health nurses and family workers.

  • Registered with HCPC via a core professional qualification Applications are welcomed from Psychologists
  • Experienced in risk management
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced and varied role
  • Experienced working within a mental health setting
  • Post-qualification band 7 experience needed

As is own transport as the role involves travel across the whole of East Sussex County area. SPFT staff have the capacity to work from home remotely where applicable and in agreement with your line manager.

Part-time hours can be considered Minimum 22.5 hrs per week.

  • To contribute to the management of a team caseload of clients with complex needs, using CPA principles, evidence based/client centred principles to assess, plan, implement and evaluate interventions, which will be delivered in the multi-agency setting
  • To hold a case-load as Lead practitioner within the Tier 3 teams and attend relevant MDT meetings
  • To regularly support and cover the duty rota
  • To, provide specialist assessment and intervention as part of a multi-disciplinary approach, with specific responsibilities regarding the care pathway
  • To provide risk screening and assessment as well as risk management planning
  • To contribute to and facilitate evidence-based assessments and individual and group interventions
  • To contribute to the maintenance and development of the Service

Qualifications

Essential

  • Post-graduate doctoral level training in applied psychology [or its equivalent for those trained prior to 1996 or outside the UK], including specifically models of psychopathology, clinical psychometrics, two or more distinct psychological therapies and lifespan developmental psychology as approved by the HCPC
  • Professionally registered as a Practitioner Psychologist with the Health Professions Council (HCPC)

Knowledge/Experience

Essential

  • Experience of specialist psychological working (assessment, formulation and treatment) with a wide variety of client groups, across the whole life course and presenting with the full range of clinical severity across the full range of care settings including outpatient, community, primary care, inpatient and residential care settings, maintaining a high degree of professionalism in the face of highly emotive and distressing problems, verbal abuse and the threat of physical abuse.
  • Doctoral level knowledge of research design and methodology, including complex multivariate data analysis as practiced within the field of applied psychology
  • High level of knowledge and skills in neuropsychology and evidence of further practice and/or training since qualification
  • Experience of the application of applied psychology in different cultural contexts and experience of working within a multicultural framework
  • Evidence of continuing professional development as required by the HCPC
